Expanding the sorted Municipal solid waste channel into valuable alternative fuel.
Since 2011, Ecocycle has tried to support the national Municipal Solid Waste issue through many ways, including via a public private partnership providing a solution to segregate non-recyclable polythene and plastic waste material processed through co-processing kiln waste management solutions.
One of Ecocycle’s best achievements lies in its contributions for alternative fuels that has supported INSEE in its endeavours to reduce the dependency on fossil fuel. All Ecocycle services for corporations, local councils, urban councils, and municipal councils can be obtained with ease quickly and with great convenience through its digital platform.
With experience and proven efficiency, Ecocycle has the capacity to manage 10,000 – 12,000 tons per year of sorted non-recyclable Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). In addition to this, Ecocycle now promotes the recycling and upcycling of recyclable materials – from industries and municipal solid waste management through the Ecocycle Resource Recovery Centre.
Ensuring high standards of professionalism and best practices, Ecocycle continuously works to develop the waste management industry along with the respective stakeholders to transform the country to a Circular Economy, based on integrated waste management solutions.
INSEE Ecocycle expanded its services to Municipalities aiming at non-recyclable waste material generated from the Local Councils island wide. INSEE Ecocycle delivers 400 metric tons per month of non-recyclable solid waste from 50 local councils in Sri Lanka and has plans to increase this volume up to 15,000 metric tons per year.
INSEE Ecocycle collects electronic waste and other recyclable waste through systematic and pre-planned waste collection.
Education of proper waste management best practices were identified as major challenges with municipalities. INSEE Ecocycle has a dedicated team collaboratively working with the workforce at municipalities for capacity building, waste related training, occupational health and safety and other best practices.
PRO – Producer Responsibility Organization
INSEE Ecocycle has initiated a synergetic approach as a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) with Fast Moving Consumer Goods industry in the country to collect the post-consumer waste through the Municipal Solid Waste channel. Waste producers and INSEE Ecocycle jointly work together to manage the value chain to collect, transport and final disposal of the post-consumer waste.
